At a glance
A practical learning routine can connect questions from your daily work with time to read and reflect. Check OMARA’s current guidance separately when planning activities for CPD.
- Begin a learning plan with questions arising from your own practice.
- Keep a simple record of what you read and what you want to revisit.
- Check official approval and eligibility before treating an activity as CPD.
Start with a question
A learning plan can feel more useful when it starts with something you actually want to understand. Keep a short list of questions from your working week: a topic to read about, a process you want to improve, or a point that needs clarification from an original source.
This is a suggestion for organising your own learning. It is separate from checking which activities satisfy current registration and CPD requirements.
Give learning a place in your week
Choose a regular time that is realistic for your practice. A short reading session with a specific question can be more manageable than an ambitious list with no time set aside.
Before you begin, decide what you want from the session. It might be to locate the original guidance behind a piece of commentary, understand a definition, or identify a topic for a future course.
Afterwards, write a few sentences in your own words. What became clearer? What remains uncertain? Where will you look next? A small record makes it easier to return to a topic without starting again.
Keep reflection separate from completion
Finishing an article or attending an event does not necessarily mean a question is resolved. Make room for follow-up reading, and record what you still need to verify.
A simple personal learning record might include:
- The question or topic you started with.
- A link to the source or activity.
- The date you read or attended it.
- A short reflection and any follow-up questions.
If you need a record for a formal purpose, check the applicable requirements directly. A personal note-taking format should not be assumed to satisfy them.
Check official CPD information
OMARA describes CPD as work-related learning for registered migration agents and provides information about planning, approved providers, and activities. Use its official CPD starting point to check current guidance.
Before booking or recording an activity as CPD, verify its current status and the relevant requirements with the official source and provider. General reading, including this journal, should not be treated as an approved activity by default.
Curiosity can shape your learning routine. Official guidance should shape the decisions you make about meeting your requirements.
A little more clarity.
Common questions.
Does reading this journal count as CPD?
Do not assume it does. This journal provides general professional reading. Check current approval, eligibility, and activity details with OMARA and the relevant provider before recording an activity as CPD.
Where should I check current CPD requirements?
Start with OMARA’s official CPD pages, linked in Sources & further reading. Follow its current guidance on planning, approved providers, and eligible activities.
Keep the original sources close.
